Dramatic InterpUsing a play, short story, or other published work, students perform a selection of one or more portions of a piece up to ten minutes in length. With a spotlight on character development and depth, this event focuses on the student’s ability to convey emotion through the use of a dramatic text. Competitors may portray one or multiple characters.

Dramatic Interpretation, contrary to its name, is not all about drama. While dramatic elements are key aspects of the event, melodramatic, or overly-sad selections are not always ideal choices for performance.
No props or costumes. The literature must be published in print. (This means you have to be able to purchase a copy) Literature can come from novels, scripts, short stories. 10 minute time limit with a 30 second grace period. Introduction must be used to address the argument behind the piece, set necessary back story, and provide title and author. The performance is delivered from memory. |
